The Technology – Sterling’s high integrity Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries operate as a starved electrolyte system. The electrolyte is limited to the amount that either is absorbed in the battery plates or wets the fibres in the separator. The resulting system allows gases produced during overcharge to diffuse from one plate to the other and to be recombined back into the electrolyte.
This recombination creates a closed system, thus reducing the release of gases into the atmosphere under normal discharge conditions.
Since the electrolyte is recycled, there is no need to add water to the batteries. This reduced maintenance leads to a longer life battery in a clean and compact container that can be installed when flooded batteries are impractical.

Top up charge: Product in storage (ambient temperature) requires a top up charge every 6 months. Apply constant voltage at 2.40 volts per cell, initial charging current should be set at less than 0.1 CA for 15 to 20 hours.

The idea of a "voltage sensitive relay" (VSR) or "voltage controlled relay" (VCR) as they are sometimes known, is to simplify the installation, no connection is made to the vehicles alternator .
Simply connect this relay to the towing vehicles positive battery terminal (via a fuse!) and link to the leisure battery
The relay monitors the towing vehicles battery voltage and when it reaches 13.3vdc, the relay switches on and supplies charging current to the aux. circuits. When the engine is stopped and the voltage of the vehicles main battery drops below 12.8vdc the unit switches off.
Only 3 connections are required to the unit and as such it can be fitted in next to no time .

Remote Monitoring and Control
Remotely control and monitor the extensive features of your SmartSolar MPPT charger with built-in bluetooth by pairing it with your smartphone or other device via VictronConnect. If your installation is connected to the internet Victron Remote Management Portal (VRM) provides access to the full power of your MPPT, anytime, anywhere; both services are free to use. For remote installations - even when there is no internet connection or phone signal nearby - you may be able to monitor your MPPT by bluetooth-pairing with a LoRaWAN (long-range wide area network) device, available optionally.
Load output
The intelligent Load output function prevents damage caused by running batteries 'flat'. You can configure the voltage at which SmartSolar disconnects a load - thereby preventing excessive drain on your batteries. And here's the clever bit: SmartSolar will attempt a 100% recharge every day. If it can't - during periods of poor weather - it raises the disconnect voltage, daily, until it achieves success. We call this feature BatteryLife because it maintains the health, and extends the life of your battery.
Fixes without screwing holes in your roof!
ABS mounts raise the panel by 25mm. Edge of panel to edge of ABS is 55mm.

If you are fitting to a vehicle we recommend that you additionally bolt or screw the panel and mounting down as well, as the strength of these systems is only as strong as the roof type or paint on your roof!
NOTE - You need to purchase additional self tappers or bolts to fit the panel to the ABS mounts, see below for one method...

Best practice would be to use this unit with no bigger than 6mm square cable and appropriately sized breakers if you are using it with glands for a water tight fit. If you are using it in an environment that is already dry and dust free the use of glands may not be necessary.
