Pathways in self reliance 

Tales of power is the latest book from Andy Reynolds, author of Wind and solar electricity and Timber for Building. It uses the real life experiences of taking a derelict cottage in the corner of an industrial cabbage field in a wind swept desolate plain. The experiences and technologies are wound around the story  of this 40 year project that changed this cottage into a comfortable and sustainable home surrounded by woodland and low nutrient status meadows. 
It started in 1982 with the wish to have some elbow room and to avoid a large debt commitment, it covers thought, views, and technologies that enables us to improve our self reliance and resilience. This is not about self sufficiency and definitely not a low carbon armchair theorist text. It is based on our practical experience and how things worked out on this life journey.
